Prestigious British rugby website RUCK suggests the Rugby World Cup concept “should change the 6 Nations”.
“To start with, we offer you the concept of the European Championship with 8 participating teams. Despite so many participants, each team will have to play a total of 5 matches. As many matches will be played in 6 nations. 4 teams will play in each pool, with the addition of semi-finals and the final, which will determine the champion of the continent. Finally, the tournament will have a relegation play. Officially, every year one participant will be eliminated. In the same way, in the first season, the teams will be recruited in the pools according to the World Rugby ranking”, – wrote RUCK.
Possible Groups of New 6 Nations
If the European Championship were to start now, the national teams would be distributed into the groups specifically as follows:
#1 Pool
1 France; 2 England; 3 Wales; 4 Italy
#2 Pool
1 Ireland; 2 Scotland; 3 Georgia; 4 Spain
Finally, if everything goes logically, the semi-finals will be France v Scotland, Ireland v England. And the relegation play-offs are as follows: Wales V Spain, Georgia V Italy. The logic of the British site leads France V England to the Super Final towards the end and Spain V Italy to retain their place in the elite.
RUCK also considers the readers’ opinion in the article; in the first five hours, about a thousand people voted. 47% think that the six nations should remain intact, 33% think that the idea is very good, and 20% think that the idea is not good at all, although changes are necessary.
