Karim Benzema, the French forward of Real Madrid, made a comment after receiving the first Ballon d’Or in his career. We remind you that the veteran French forward received the award from Zinedine Zidane in Paris.
Karim Benzema: “I remember the time when I was little. There were only 2 people in my life that I wanted to emulate: Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo. All this is the result of a lot of work. There were also difficult moments. It was very difficult for me when I was not on the team, but I got through everything and will try to continue.
I want to thank my teammates and the great president Florentino Perez. He was always honest with me. Jean-Michel Aulas from Lyon is also unforgettable. I couldn’t have made my dream come true without them.
I think that we should not pay attention to age. After 30 years, many of us have improved even more. I am like that too. This is the result of determination and hard work. Now I train much more and tell myself that I cannot give up”.
For the record, Benzema received the prestigious prize at the age of 34 years and 290 days, the second result in the award’s history. Only the legendary Stanley Matthews received the Ballon d’Or at an older age than Karim. The English footballer received the award at the age of 41 years and 321 days.
