Canelo needs a win in the trilogy
This weekend (Saturday, September 17, 2022), Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin will collide in the ring for the third time. The event will be broadcast via DAZN pay-per-view (PPV). It will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Today (Thursday, September 15, 2022), the two fighters locked eyes at the end of the press conference.
Golovkin (42-1-1) suffered the only blemish of his career from his first two fights against Canelo. Fighting to a split draw in September 2017, Golovkin lost the rematch a year later by majority decision. The 40-year-old legend has won four fights since then, finishing all but one of his opponents.
Canelo, meanwhile, is in rebound mode after being upset by Dmitry Bivol in a unanimous decision loss in May 2022. Bivol snapped the Mexican’s eight-fight winning streak, starting with a victory over “GGG” in their rematch. In a trilogy fight, Canelo has all the potential to put the stamp on this rivalry and put it behind him once and for all. However, a win for Golovkin would tie the streak with the likes of Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) Flyweight division. We’ll find out what’s in store on Saturday night.
