Surprisingly, a new record for audience participation was set on the first day of the championship. According to the statistics website – Esports Charts, the number of concurrent viewers on the opening day of the IEM Rio Major reached 745,304, which is an absolute record. Never before have so many people watched the opening matches of big CS:GO tournaments.
This improved the result of PGL MAJOR Antwerp, which recorded 707,000 spectators in the opening match. Overall, the PGL Major Stockholm Grand Final had the most viewers in CS:GO history, with more than 2.75 million concurrent viewers.
The opening matches of the event will be played at the Riocentro with an audience. In contrast, the final stage will be played at the Jeunesse Arena, accommodating up to 18,000 people. Along with sports events, the hall also hosts music festivals. Additionally, the Rio Major is the second tournament after the StarLadder Major (held in Berlin in 2019), where spectators can attend matches throughout the tournament.
In conclusion, a total of 24 teams participate in the prestigious CS:GO championship. Teams were divided into three groups, and their placement was determined by regional rankings (RMR). Hence, the main favorites: NAVI, FaZe, and Liquid, will participate in the competition from the Legends Stage. The event’s prize pool is 1,250,000 dollars, of which the champion will receive 500,000 dollars.
