Former world champion and the man destroyed by Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder returned to the ring today after a year-long hiatus, knocking out the Finnish boxer, the one-time great prospect of the sport, Robert Helenius, in the first round.
In Brooklyn, Helenius was hit by Wilder’s famous right at the end of the first round, which Fury withstood several times, and the “Northern Nightmare” could not get up, unlike the Briton, and the fight ended with this episode.
“I needed time…” Wilder said after the fight. “I let Robert get into the fight and get close, then look what happened.”
With the victory over his former sparring partner, Wilder improved his boxing record to 43-2, including 42 by knockout. “Who’s next? Whoever you want – Ruiz, Usyk, it doesn’t matter, I’m back.”
