EuroBasket 2022 made a big sensation. No one named the Polish national team among the tournament’s favorites. Still, Poland showed an amazing game against Slovenia, considered the clear favorite. Underdogs defeated the fierce opponent 90:87 and won the right to play in the semi-finals.
EuroBasket 2022 – Poland advances!
It can be said that Igor Igor Miliฤiฤ’s students had everything going in the first half. As a result, their advantage grew every minute, and Luka Doncic’s team was constantly in the role of the chaser. The maximum advantage of Poland was 23 points. At the end of the second quarter, the team was winning 58:39.
After a long break, we saw same Slovenia on the field, which made us fall in love with them. Doncic and his teammates gave the opponent an amazing pace. As a result, Poland was shocked (the team missed all ten three-pointers this quarter). Slovenians won the third quarter 24:6 (!) and were losing just a point before the last quarter.
At the start of the last quarter, the Slovenian team was already ahead by 5 points, and at that time, it was hard to imagine that Doncic’s team would miss the victory. However, Poland performed another miracle. Miliฤiฤ’s players first eliminated the difference and soon regained the lead.
Last Quarter Drama
Luka Doncic’s 5th personal foul helped Poland to reach the goal. The leader of the Slovenians moved to the bench three minutes before the final siren, and the reigning European champions found themselves in a difficult situation they could not get out of.
In the end, the Polish national team won 90:87, in which Mateusz Ponitka made a great contribution with a fantastic triple-double (26 points, 16 rebounds, and ten assists), A.J. Slaughter and Michaล Sokoลowski scored 16 points each, and Jaroslaw Zyskowski – 14. From Slovenia with 21 points, Vlatko Cancar led the way, Goran Dragic scored 17 points, and Doncic had 14 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. However, he had six turnovers along with 5 fouls, and this match cannot be considered his asset.
