Modric will retire from international football

Luka Modric, one of the leaders of the Croatian national team, will end his team career after the World Cup 2022. This was announced by the Real Madrid legend himself.
“I understand that I have already reached a certain age. This will be my last tournament with the Croatian national team,” said Luka in a conversation with FIFA+.
Earlier it was written that Modric was planning to leave the national team after the 2024 European Championship, however, it seems that he has changed his mind.

Luka played for the national team for the first time in 2006 and is the country’s record holder in terms of team matches (154). Together with him, the Croatian national team played in the finals of the 2018 World Cup, where they lost to France 2:4.
The 37-year-old midfielder has played 14 matches for Real Madrd this season, scored 3 goals and had 2 assists.
