The organizing country spent a huge sum of 208 billion euros to host the World Cup in Qatar. This information is reported by The Sun. There is also a comment from the director of communications of the tournament, Fatma Al-Nuaimi. She tells in detail what the money was spent on:
“The World Cup is a component of Qatar’s global vision, which the country has developed until 2030. According to her, intensive development of cities, national objects, and industry are planned. €208 billion is the amount that was spent on the construction of new roads, metro, airports, hotels, and other tourist facilities. It is clear that they will help to hold the World Cup at the highest level, and the most important thing is that they will serve the country even after that”.
Accordingly, €6.75 billion was spent directly on football stadiums and fan zones. Qatar has built seven brand new stadiums and modernized the Khalifa International Arena. For example, it must be noted that the World Cup held in Russia in 2018 cost “only” €13.2 billion.
