Former UFC lightweight champion and title contender Charles Oliveira (33-1-8) commented on the fight for the belt with Islam Makhachev (22-1). The Brazilian said that he will finish the Dagestani in the first round.
Oliveira has the longest winning streak in the lightweight division – the Brazilian has won 11 consecutive fights. He lost the belt only because he weighed 200 grams more than the allowed weight at the previous weigh-ins for the fight with Justin Gaethje.
“Fighting Islam Makhachev will not be the most difficult in my career. Islam is Khabib’s protรฉgรฉ and carries this burden on his shoulders. For me, facing him is a simple fight. Don’t get confused. This match is against Makhachev, not Nurmagomedov, but if ‘Eagle’ wants revenge for his friend and returns, I will be ready. However, I don’t think this step will be taken, and I respect his decision.
And in the fight with Islam, I will surprise the world. I will finish him in the first round. I will show you the difference between my class, his class, and mine and his opponents. After this fight, people will see why Charles Oliveira is called the champion. I want to fight Conor McGregor again. He is not stupid. He has smart people around him. “Conor gets the public excited, and the fight sells well,” Oliveira said.
The fight between the Dagestani and the Brazilian for the vacant belt will occur on Saturday, October 22. Abu Dhabi will host the match. The Bantamweight belt will also be on stake this evening – Aljamain Sterling will meet TJ Dillashaw. The fights of Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley, as well as Beneil Dariush and Mateusz Gamrot, are also of interest.
