Ralf Schumacher is still capable of what made him a huge fan base in his day – obviously not as many as his legendary brother, Michael Schumacher, but still quite a few.
Ralf Schumacher in a white racing suit, in a white and blue car, with a V10 engine and really good speed: At the Legends Parade during the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, the German felt transported back to his own past. “As if it was the day before yesterday” that he competed in Formula 1 with the Williams-BMW FW25.
The 47-year-old German raced with his 2003 season car, the Williams-BMW FW 25, at Spielberg’s Legends appearance. Although it’s been 14 years since his last race, he wasn’t embarrassed – quite the opposite!
After the speech, he told motorsport-total.com that he had set a better time than the current Formula 1 drivers but did not reveal how much. And then Ralf posted the results of his fastest lap on Instagram: 1:08.170 minutes.
Schumacher had a better time than some modern racers
For comparison: Max Verstappen had the fastest lap at the Grand Prix – 1:07.275 minutes. Charles Leclerc had a better result than Ralf – 1:07.583 minutes.
Others were slower than Ralf. However, unlike in 2003, almost nothing has changed in his car – only new tires and throttling from 950 to 850 horsepower.
47-year-old Ralf Schumacher explained why he was faster than current drivers:
today’s cars are almost 200 kilograms heavier. Because of security, the cars got heavier.” – he said.
