The last day of every window is always busy, and the summer of 2022 was no different as the last bit of recruitment was sought.
With the season’s transfer window closed, September 1st will bring another deadline for teams in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1. The continent’s leading teams are busy strengthening their ranks: Manchester City and Liverpool complete deals for Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez, the hottest strikers in the market.
Barcelona has been busy in Spain, Arsenal has pulled off some smart moves in England, Bayern Munich pulled off a coup when Sadio Mane arrived, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku have returned to Italy, and Manchester United have had some disappointing sagas.

Let’s look at the most notable transfer deadline day deals.
1:30 am | Denis Zakaria – from Juventus to Chelsea
Chelsea has strengthened their midfield with the loan signing of Denis Zakaria from Juventus.
The transfer reportedly includes buyouts after the 2022-23 season.
12:20 am | Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – from Barcelona to Chelsea
Late at night, Chelsea finally announced: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would return to the Premier League.
The Blues, desperate for their striker, paid Barcelona a £10m ($12m) fee + Marcos Alonso to make it happen.
12:15 am | Billy Gilmour – from Chelsea to Brighton
Chelsea has sold Billy Gilmour to Brighton in an official deadline day move.
Gilmour, having already committed to Euro 2020 and last term on loan at Norwich City, now has a permanent home with the Seagulls. He signed a four-year contract and is eligible to play this weekend.
“Billy comes with a fantastic pedigree, having played in the Premier League and Champions League as well as playing for Scotland at Euros last year,” said head coach Graham Potter. “He will bolster already existing midfield options.”
12:10 am | Wilfried Gnonto – from Zurich to Leeds
Leeds have completed the transfer of highly-rated 18-year-old Wilfried Gnonto from Zurich.
The Italian forward made his international debut this summer; understandably, big things are in the works.
11:45 pm | Dan James – from Leeds to Fulham
Fulham has made the fourth signing of the summer – Dan James, who arrived on a season-long loan from Leeds United.
The Wales international joined Lavin Kurzawa, Willian, and Carlos Vinicius at the arrivals gate at Craven Cottage.
11 pm | Hector Bellerin – from Arsenal to Barcelona
Arsenal icon Hector Bellerin has joined boyhood club Barcelona after 11 years with the Gunners.
Barca will not pay a transfer fee for the defender after agreeing to terminate his contract at the Emirates Stadium.
10:16 pm | James Garner – from Manchester United to Everton
Everton has strengthened their midfield with the addition of James Garner from Manchester United on a permanent deal.
The 21-year-old talent signed a four-year deal and spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.
10 pm | Arthur Melo – from Juventus to Liverpool
Liverpool moved quickly to deal with the midfield crisis, with Arthur Melo on a season-long loan from Juventus.
There is no option to purchase the player included in the deal.
9:01 pm | Ainslie Maitland Niles – from Arsenal to Southampton
Arsenal has sent Ainsley Maitland Niles to Southampton on loan with an option to buy.
The 25-year-old has also spent time at West Brom and Roma but hasn’t lived up to expectations after first breaking into the senior team as a teenager.
8:20 pm | Sergino Dest – from Barcelona to Milan
Barcelona has loaned the United States men’s national team defender Sergino Dest to Milan with an option to buy.
8:13 pm | Carlos Soler – from Valencia to PSG
Paris Saint-Germain has confirmed the permanent signing of midfielder Carlos Soler for €20m (£17.2m/$20m).
He signed a five-year contract.
6:30 pm | Francesco Acerbi – from Lazio to Inter
Lazio sent the central defender Francesco Acherbi on loan to Inter, which will pay the salary this term. There also exists the option to buy.
Acerbi, 34, brings a wealth of experience to Inter’s back line. In his career, he has made 322 appearances in Serie A.
6:30 pm | Julian Draxler – from PSG to Benfica
Julian Draxler moved to Benfica on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
Draxler made 131 appearances for PSG in Ligue 1, scoring 17 goals and providing 21 assists.
But he has struggled for playing time in recent seasons and is looking for a new chance to prove his worth as a top-flight playmaker.
5:30 pm | Martin Dubravka – from Newcastle to Manchester United
Manchester United bought the goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle and must buy the keeper if certain incentives are met.
5 pm | Willian – from Free Agency to Fulham
Fulham has confirmed the signing of free agent Willian, who returns to the Premier League from Corinthians after a short spell in his native Brazil.
10 am | Manuel Akanji – from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City
Swiss defender Manuel Akanji has linked up with the Premier League champions after seeing off a £15m ($17m) deal. He is committed to terms at the Etihad Stadium until 2027.
9:30 am | Antony – from Ajax to Manchester United
Manchester United finally got their man when they announced that the £85m ($99m) deal had been completed. The Brazilian forward signed a five-year contract with the Red Devils until 2027.
