Leon Edwards wonders how Kamaru Usman will return.
Leon Edwards beats Kamaru Usman on UFC 278
Few expected this result. Many had Usman as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world entering UFC 278, and he even talked about a potential move to light heavyweight shortly. Because of this, Edward wonders if Usman will survive such a devastating loss.
“I would love to see him come back,” Edwards said at the UFC 278 post-fight press conference.
“Because when you think you’re great and then you’re knocked out like that, it changes people. So let’s see.”

Usmanโs winning streak ends
Usman entered UFC 278 on a 19-fight winning streak, including a victory over Edwards and five consecutive title defenses. He is undeniably one of the best fighters in the world.
Still, Edward never considered him pound-for-pound great and refused to be swayed by him.
“I didn’t build him to be a pound-for-pound goat like everyone said he is,” Edwards said. “I’ve been saying all week, ‘I can’t believe he’s pound for pound (the best).’ “You have to be better than just wrestling and boxing. I’m a mixed martial artist – I can do it. I took him down in the first round. He has never been brought down before. So I broke the 100 percent record.
New Champ in UFC
Saturday was a monumental moment in Edwards’ career. He had to go undefeated for ten bouts spanning seven years to get a chance to become the UFC champion. It was the culmination of a long and difficult journey.
“They threw me,” Edwards said of the feeling of winning the championship. “It all just hit me – everything I’ve been through, the road and the road I’ve taken to get here.Putting what this means to me into words is very challenging for me, my family and the people I grew up with. All just came to me, all just fell on me. It’s hard to explain and put into words.”
