One of the most obscure prospects in the UFC, Dagestan-born Zabit Magomedsharipov, has left MMA. The former No. 3 at featherweight and the main contender for the title has left the sport in such a way that no one knows the exact reason.
Magomedsharipov, 31, informed the organization about his decision on June 15. It is true that no one knows the exact reason why Zabit left the sport, but rumors focus on 3 main issues: health problems, loss of interest, and making a choice in favor of medicine. Zabit is a medical student in the United States and has repeatedly spoken of his interest in the field.
I know that many of you were waiting for my return, there was not a single day that someone did not ask when my next fight was. But I decided to end my pro sports career. Disruption of fights, health problems – all these did not allow me to perform/fight earlier. I have recovered now, but I don’t feel the way I used to. Thank you to everyone who has supported me for such a long time. I didn’t have time to become a champion, but I think, even without this, I hope I was able to please/entertain you. I cease to be an active athlete, but I do not leave the sport. I have something and with whom to share my knowledge.”

Zabit in UFC
The 31-year-old Magomedsharipov last fought in 2019 and defeated Calvin Kattar at the UFC event in Moscow. In 2020, Zabit was due to fight Yair Rodriguez, but the Mexican missed the match due to injury. Magomedsharipov has a series of 14 wins in MMA and has won 6 matches in a row in the UFC, in 4 of which he received a bonus for the best fight of the evening. His previous opponents in UFC were: Calvin Kattar, Jeremy Stephens, Brandon Davis, Kyle Bochniak, Sheymon Moraes and Mike Santiago.
